Hereward Harmony was started in 1987. We are a male acapella chorus affiliated to BABS (British Association of Barbershops) and have been regular attenders at the National Conventions throughout the years and competed at National level there.
In 2013 we came top of our Division.
Our emphasis though is performing at local events in the Peterborough area, where we have sung at a wide range of venues from birthday parties to the East of England Showground, the Key Theatre, the Mayors ball and department stores including John Lewis, Tesco and Dobbies.
The chorus has also performed for corporate events, parties, club functions, at local festivals, senor citizens homes and schools etc. etc.
We sing as a chorus or can be booked as a quartet or octet.
Our Director Rob Yarnall started playing music at an early age; learning violin, guitar and piano as both a solo artist and in ensembles. He formed several bands during this time as a lead guitarist and as the songwriter for the bands. Over the upcoming years, he worked on improving his singing and progressed into being the lead singer for a band and recording full band arrangements for his songs at home.
In 2008 Rob moved to Peterborough and looking to try out new activities, responded to an advert in a local newsletter looking for barbershop singers, although he knew little of barbershop music he soon fitted in well as a part of the chorus learning more around singing craft and the barbershop style. Owing to his musical expertise he soon became the section leader for the Lead section and after a short spell as Assistant Musical Director. Rob was eventually approached by Hereward Harmony’s sister chorus Singchronicity to be their Musical Director, guiding the chorus to wins at both the Peterborough and Oundle music festivals; whilst increasing membership of the chorus to over 40 members.
In 2018, Rob returned to Hereward Harmony helping double the number of singers singing with the chorus at weekly rehearsals and set about creating a new repertoire from scratch. Within this, new singers and those who were changing part had to be brought up to speed. Moving to the present, the chorus now has a solid membership and Rob is now focused on taking the chorus to their first national competition in several years.
Rob’s philosophy is around getting the most out of the potential all chorus members and creating an environment where everyone enjoys their singing and is striving to be better.
We are a male acapella chorus affiliated to BABS (British Association of Barbershops). We sing in four-part harmony – Tenor, Lead, Baritone and Bass.
We have around 12-15 songs in our repertoire at any one time and usually have a couple "in development". Most of our songs are arrangements of popular hits from the last 50 years or so. We also have a Christmas repertoire for those festive singouts!
